Destination Index Movers — July 2026: Who's Rising, Who's Falling
A data report from the live Destination Index: the destinations that climbed, the ones that slipped, and where planner momentum is building this month.
Napa Valley is the headline mover on the July 2026 Destination Index, climbing 37 spots to #15 over the past month. Here's the full board: who climbed, who slipped, and where momentum is building for incentive programs booking into the next four quarters.
The Destination Index is our live, continuously recomputed ranking of the world's incentive travel destinations. It isn't an editor's list — it's a scored model fed by daily readings: Google Trends search trajectories, live airfare from US gateways, safety advisories, cost-for-quality data, and program-readiness inputs. Every day the model reranks; every month we publish the net movement. This report covers the trailing ~35 days, comparing each destination's earliest rank reading in the window against where it stands today.
Why movement matters more than position: a destination sitting at #4 tells you it's good. A destination that just jumped four places tells you something is changing — new air routes, a surging search curve, a softening advisory — and change is where planners find leverage on rates, availability, and wow-factor before the rest of the market catches up.
Risers — July 2026
| Rank | Δ | Destination | Momentum | Avg flight $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| #15 | ▲ 37 | Napa Valley, United States | 66.5 | $355 |
| #3 | ▲ 35 | French Riviera (Nice), France | 80.0 | $912 |
| #9 | ▲ 33 | Edinburgh, United Kingdom | 70.0 | $841 |
| #11 | ▲ 33 | Sydney, Australia | 59.5 | $1,447 |
| #8 | ▲ 28 | Banff, Canada | 76.0 | $442 |
Napa Valley (▲37), French Riviera (Nice) (▲35), Edinburgh (▲33), Sydney (▲33), Banff (▲28) are the month's gainers. Rising positions usually trace back to one of two things: a live search-momentum swing that Google Trends picks up weeks before RFP volume follows, or an air-access change — a new nonstop, added seat capacity — that quietly reprices the destination for group travel. Either way, a riser this month is often a value window: rates tend to lag the Index by a season.
Fallers — July 2026
| Rank | Δ | Destination | Momentum | Avg flight $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| #39 | ▼ 27 | Seoul, South Korea | 33.5 | $1,387 |
| #37 | ▼ 26 | Tulum, Mexico | 57.5 | $416 |
| #30 | ▼ 25 | Dubai, United Arab Emirates | 33.5 | $909 |
| #50 | ▼ 24 | Hoi An (Vietnam), Vietnam | 54.0 | $1,136 |
| #52 | ▼ 21 | Miami, United States | 30.5 | $245 |
On the other side, Seoul (▼27), Tulum (▼26), Dubai (▼25), Hoi An (Vietnam) (▼24), Miami (▼21) gave back ground. A falling rank is rarely a verdict on the destination itself — more often it means somebody else's momentum outran theirs, or airfare moved against them. Planners with programs already contracted in these markets shouldn't flinch; planners still shopping should ask what changed.
Momentum leaders
Rank is the output; momentum is the input to watch. These are the three highest live momentum scores on the board right now — the destinations whose search and demand trajectories are steepest, regardless of where they currently rank:
- Dubrovnik, Croatia — momentum 89.3, currently #1 · best months May–Jun, Sep–Oct
- Tirana (Albania), Albania — momentum 88.5, currently #17 · best months May–Jun, Sep–Oct
- Patagonia (Chile), Chile — momentum 88.0, currently #47 · best months Nov–Mar
How to read this
Every destination is scored 0–100 on our published formula: momentum 30% — live Google Trends trajectory · air access 20% · safety 15% · value 15% · infrastructure 10% · planner fit 10%. The Δ column shows net rank movement across the window — ▲ means the destination climbed, ▼ means it fell. Momentum is the live score today; average flight is the blended round-trip economy fare from US gateways that feeds the value component.
One caution: a single month of movement is a signal, not a trend. We treat two consecutive months of movement in the same direction as confirmation — that's when it should start changing your sourcing shortlist.
